México consume tres millones de pavos en Navidad

El 66 por ciento proviene de importaciones de EUA y Chile

Tanto en Navidad como en la cena de año
nuevo, se calcula que los mexicanos consumirán un total de 3 millones de
pavos, de los cuales el 34 por ciento provienen de la producción nacional y el
restante 66 por ciento de importaciones de EUA (95 por ciento) y de Chile (5
por ciento).

Marco Parson, presidente de la Sección de
Guajolotes (pavos) de la Unión Nacional de Avicultores (UNA) de México, según
se publicó en estos días en el diario El Universal, dijo que “las importaciones
que más preocupan a la industria nacional son las de pavo entero, tanto fresco
como congelado, que representan el 8 por ciento del total importado y son la
principal competencia”.

Como se menciona en la citada fuente, de las
155,325 toneladas que han entrado al país en este año, el 63 por ciento fueron
trozos de carne de pavo fresco y 19 por ciento congelado. La mayor parte de las
importaciones, es decir, el 92 por ciento son productos y materias primas,
mientras que sólo el 8 por ciento es pavo entero. La industria nacional no
puede competir por el bajo precio de estos productos y materias primas.

A pesar del impacto de las importaciones,
Parson destacó que en 2014 ha habido un crecimiento del 9 por ciento y para el
próximo año se espera un 10 por ciento. El Sr. Parson comentó también a El
Universal
que han crecido y que intentan recuperar terreno. Tanto la
devaluación del peso mexicano como el aumento del precio internacional del ave
han ayudado a que el pavo mexicano se recupere.

Vale la pena mencionar que mientras en EUA se
producen 350 millones de pavos, en México sólo se producen 1.1 millones.
